English version:

A happy combination of circumstances led to the birth of the gallery: in April 2009, somewhat dissatisfied with the workshop where I practised my work as a graphic designer and photographer, I discovered "by chance" a magnificent place which immediately captivated me. The available space, too big for my own needs, gave me the idea of presenting the work of artist friends there.

This is the genesis of the studio-gallery La Quincaillerie (The Ironmonger’s), so-called because it is housed in the premises of a former hardware store. A first trial exhibition during the summer of 2009 proved conclusive: despite Barjac’s relatively remote situation, a large number of very interested, often knowledgeable visitors came to discover the gallery. The interest shown has not waned since.

My ambition: To present alternating exhibitions of artists living in the area as well as those from elsewhere and from widely differing countries, whose approach is convincing enough for me. Contemporary art or art termed current- that is to say art produced today by living artists but not meeting the established conceptual criteria of "contemporary art" – it doesn’t matter to me, as long as the approach seems right and sufficiently interesting.
